Peg O’ My Heart (Fisher-Bryan) by The Harmonicats • Recipe for a major hit record in 1947: a small Chicago-label release of a 34 year-old ballad performed by artificially-reverbed harmonicas? An unusual new sound for its time, this surprise smash by the instrumental trio spent 8 weeks as the country’s most-played juke box hit and spawned numerous cover versions, five of which are also included here (see Buddy Clark, Three Suns, Ted Weems, Art Lund and Clark Dennis). • Note that the Harmonicats’ later Mercury label remake of “Peg” that has been commonly reissued did use the same arrangement but is a different recording. This posted version is the original hit. • THE 1947 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1947 (some were recorded in 1946). . • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- • The three* MusicProf channels are home to The HITS ARCHIVES, YouTube’s most comprehensive collection of U.S. ‘popular music’ recordings from 1925 thru 1975.
