The word “disciple” refers to a learner or follower and “apostle” means “one who is sent out, probably on a mission”. While Jesus was on Earth, he had twelve followers who were called disciples. • After the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, He sent the disciples out to be His witnesses. They were then referred to as the twelve apostles. • The 12 disciples/apostles of Jesus were the foundation stones of His church.
