Japanese particles are confusing. Among them, が is probably the most confusing one. Japanese has particle は to mention a subject, so why do people use が? What about when が is used to mark something like grammatical object in a sentence? It is grammatically correct to say ケーキを食べたい (I want to eat cake), as cake is the object of the transitive verb eat in this situation. But Japanese people oftentimes choose to use が instead of を, and say ケーキが食べたい.
