Title: Geopolymers from Recycling Solutions • Description: • Join Patrick, a materials scientist and geopolymers specialist, as he demonstrates how to create geopolymers using a simple recycling solution. Pats recipe, inspired by his book Basic Geopolymer Formulations, offers an accessible approach for anyone interested in experimenting with geopolymers. The mixture sequence (first the solution, then mixing the geopolymer) was introduced by Prof. Joseph Davidovits. • The recipe may not be perfect, but it serves as an exemplary starting point that can be adjusted to suit individual preferences. We suggest the metakaolin-waterglass-NaOH-formulation for newcomers, or a fly ash-based approach, because it works and will most at a time be successful. The recycling approach may not. • --- • The solution comprises water, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and SiO2 beads sourced from standard desiccator bags. With just 10g of water, 2g of NaOH, and 4g of SiO2 beads, you can prepare the base solution as a starting point into the world of recycling geopolymer solutions. • For the geopolymer mixture, he combines 11g of metakaolin with 16g of the prepared solution. This straightforward recipe yields a versatile geopolymer cement suitable for various applications. If it hardens 😎 • Standard waterglass is already one of the best sources of soluable SiO2. A recycling solution may not be as usable as said waterglass (= soluable silicate). • If you appreciate our efforts, consider supporting us by liking, sharing, subscribing, or leaving a comment.
