Latrobe is a beautiful hamlet in northern Tasmania and is quite close to Devonport. It was our place of choice to stay before boarding the Spirit of Tasmania when sailing to Geelong. It is only a 10 minute drive to the ship and has a very good lost cost camp in town RV friendly facilities. • We strolled around town and admired the beauty of the old buildings, enjoyed a meal at Bellies Restaurant, shopped at the mighty Hill Street Grocer, and visited the infamous Reliquare shop. The river has a lovely walk along it. There are platypus in the river, along with abundant bird life. • Do yourself a favour - stop, look, and admire this lovely town. It is definitely worth it. • Latrobe was the main port of N W Tasmania in the early 1800s. It surpassed Devonport as a major trade centre during most of the 1800s. • It was first settled in 1826. In 1861 it was named for Charles Joseph La Trobe, the administrator of the colony. In 1860, La Trobe's Post Office opened. In 1873 it was renamed to Latrobe. • YouTube ‪@jabindajoey‬ LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, hit the bell to GET NOTIFIED • Follow us on our wonderful journey around Australia, our homeland • Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): https://uppbeat.io/t/simon-folwar/fan...
