Parking area is a wide open field and the trail starts on the flats through the trees. This area is a free range area for wandering cattle in the summer months so take caution on the paths you choose, your distance from the cows and where you step. The starting section of the trail takes you through pine and cedar forests before opening up to low growing scrub bushes and flattened avalanche paths. The gradual incline will only gain you a couple hundred meters elevation before crossing the creek for a second time, making a sharp left and having a dramatic change to a steep varying conditioned trail with insecure footing. The route will move back to secure ground however it will continue to climb steeply for 400m elevation gain where it will level out for the last 20 minutes and relief the lake's shoreline. There is an inlet and outlet source on either side of the lake and the obvious trail stops here. You are free to wander as you choose with various peaks and lakes in the vicinity. There is no facilities and tread softly as to preserve the nature as best as you can. Before returning the same route to entered have a look around for any items left behind to ensure you leave the area better than how it was when you arrived. • Driving Directions • From Vernon drive east on Hwy 6 through Lumby and on to Cherryville for roughly 65kms. Take the South Fork Forest Service Road off the left hand side travelling north through the bush for around 25kms. There are wooden signs indicating the road to Monashee Lake as well at other known hiking routes like Pinnacles, Mt. Beaven and Vista Pass. Total travel time is roughly 2 hours and the forest road is regularly used with logging trucks throughout the seasons. Four wheel drive is not needed in dry conditions however a higher clearance vehicle like a truck or SUV (No cars) is recommended with more aggressive tires to stop any punctures from sharp rocks. • Trail Stats • Parking lot: elevation 1265m • Monashee Lake: one way trail distance 5.5km, lake elevation 2015m, elevation gain 750m • Estimated hiking time of 2.5 hour to the lake and 2 hours to return to the parking lot. Casual pace including breaks, lunch and relaxing at the lake should allow for 6-7 hours truck to truck time. • To find out more about hiking to Monashee Lake: @/14/monashee-lake/ • Pinnacles lake: @/21/pinnacle-lake-august-21-2017/ • and the Vernon Outdoors Club: @ • Or hiking in general throughout British Columbia and other parts of the world be sure to check the write ups at: • @ • Don't forget to hit the SUBSCRIBE button to never miss a beat, select the BELL icon for notifications on all the latest uploads and adventures.
