You can also use it to knit two at a time or in the round but most people just use it for simple colorwork. • The basic double knitting repeat goes like this: • 1. Bring both yarns to the back • 2. knit one stitch using yarn A • 3. bring both yarns to the front • 4. purl one stitch using yarn B • Now, if you follow this repeat, you will create two pieces that are not connected at the sides. That white most people will want to employ a special double knitting selvage. So in every row • 1. Knit the first stitch through back loop • 2. Bring the yarns to the front and twist them • 3. Purl the next stitch trapping the other color in between • 4. When you reach the second to last stitch: Bring the yarns to the back and slip the stitch purlwise • 5. Bring the yarns to the front, and slip the last stitch purlwise as well. • For changing colors in double knitting, you don't actually need a special technique. All you need to do is knitting a knit stitch for the front side in a different color.
