There are three sub-types of impetigo. The most common type is non-bullous impetigo; it begins with macules and papules, which fill with fluid to become vesicles. These vesicles quickly burst and make go unnoticed. The resulting lesion is a superficial erosion with a honey-coloured crust. The second type is bullous impetigo, in which the initial lesions grow into the much larger bullae. Rupture of this flaccid bullae also results in superficial erosions with the characteristic honey-coloured crust. In the last subtype, ecthyma, the lesions also progress from macules and papules to vesicles and bullae, but they extend deep into the dermis, resulting in ulcers with raised violaceous borders. These lesions may result in scarring. • 📺 Subscribe To My Channel and Get More Great Quizzes and Tutorials • / @med4vl • #FOAMped #MedEd #pediatrics • Disclaimer: All the information provided by Medical Education for Visual Learners and associated videos are strictly for informational purposes only.
