In the 1990's San Francisco and Recology pioneered curbside composting collecting food scraps avoiding 2.5 million tons of material into landfill. The many benefits to composting are that it avoids methane gas into the atmosphere, helps farmers during times of drought, and creates nutrient rich soil for farming. • We visit Be Love Farm in Vacaville which is a regenerative farm, learn how San Francisco's environmental education programs for youth are integrated into their curriculum, and hear how government is challenging large corporations with their carbon footprint. • #EarthDay #Compost #ClimateChange • ---------------------------------- • Executive Producer: Jack Chin • Producer: Anson Ho, Jeffrey Gee Chin • Director/Editor: Anson Ho • Cinematography: Felix Berzabal, Jeffrey Gee Chin, Anson Ho • Additional Footage and Photos: Recology, Farming Hope, Library of Congress, OpenSFHistory / wnp37.02602, OpenSFHistory / wnp28.3234, OpenSFHistory / wnp72.4302 • Special Thanks: Robert Reed, Senator Scott Wiener, Matthew Engelhart, Be Love Farm, Alexa Kielty, Gianna Fazioli, Esther Tang, Georgie Gibbs, Cecilia Frisardi, Aptos Middle School, Garden for the Environment, Chris Krupa, Hana Shin, Joseph Sweiss, Diedre Tanenberg • ------------------------------------------------- • Subscribe to our channel: • https://www.youtube.com/user/sfgtv?su • ------------------------------------------------- • Facebook page: / sfgovtv • Instagram: / sfgovtv • Twitter: / sfgovtv • ------------------------------------------------- • Website: http://sfgovtv.org/
