http://www.longplays.org • Played by: Connor • White Knight Chronicles is the first part in a series by Level-5, released in 2008 in Japan. It was L5's first foray into the world of PS3, so it is a bit rough around the edges in place, but the production values are surprisingly high. • In a break from traditional RPGs, the player avatar actually has next to no impact in the story and just tags along with the real hero, Leonard, when he unlocks an ancient power and uses it to try to rescue is boyhood crush, princess Cisna. • The battle system is rather obviously tailored to online play and most of the alleged play-time of several hundred hours more or less have to be online, more often than not grinding. However, since the game servers are shut down, no online gameplay is included. In fact, I ignored all the guild-quests, since they have no bearing on the story and I didn't want to derail the story. • I played the original version of the game. A remastered version is included with the sequel, which basically puts the first game's story into the gameplay mechanics of the second. This means the combat system, such as the skill tree, staggering and interruptions are the same in the sequel and the remake. While those mechanics are actually improved, I thought it would be nicer to be able to show both versions (since I will do WKC2 later). No actual content is different in the two versions (except side quests). • To be honest, this was a bit of a sloppy run from my point of view. I more or less just played it through without planning ahead what I was going to do, so there may be times that are a bit dragged out, or when I outright do the wrong thing.
