This video explains the salvage pathways for both purines and pyrimidines. Purine salvage pathway and pyrimidine salvage pathway are beneficial for the cells because these salvage pathways saves energy and time for the cells. utilization of free bases or nucleosides and salvaging them into purine nucleotides or purine nucleotides or pyrimidine nucleosides or pyrimidine nucleotides help the cells to save energy and time. Different enzymes are involved in purine salvage pathway and pyrimidine salvage pathways. Two disorders to mention related with salvage pathway are Lesh-Nyhan syndrome and severe combined immunodeficiency disease. lesch nyhan syndrome is a disease of purine salvage pathway. Purine salvage pathway deficiency disease lesch nyhan syndrome is disease with bizzare sign of self mutilation. Adenosine deaminase deficiency due to adenosine deaminase enzyme leading severe combined immunodeficiency disease.
