Processional Hymn #411 Arise, Your Light Is Come! FESTAL SONG • Arise, Your Light Is Come was written • in 1974 by Ruth C. Duck for a collection • of hymns adapted for inclusive language • for the Ecumenical Women’s Center of • Chicago. Duck explains, “I was working on • adapting Rise Up, O Men of God, when this • new hymn text came to me, as if the new • wine of the faith I wanted to express would • not fit into the old wineskin of the earlier • text.” Based on Isaiah 61:1-2, the text calls • us to reflect God’s light in our lives, to • proclaim “good tidings to the poor” and • “comfort those who mourn.
