The Nellie E. Saloon Desert Bar is located in Parker, Arizona in the Buckskin Mountains, or in the middle of nowhere in the desert, to be more exact. • Actually it’s only about 10 miles from Parker, Arizona, but heed the warnings; it’s 5 miles down a dirt road. And while most any can make it in, you better love your bar more than your car. In all actuality, the road can be bumpy, but it's very doable. Although, I'd leave your camper at your campsite. • Speaking of camping, there's camping here, too. Not much for cell service, if any at all, but camping here with fairly easy access to some drinks and live music - Nice! • If you're going to hang out here, you should know a bit about this unique bar in the desert. It was an old mining camp, and the name, Nellie E., originates from this old mining claim. In 1983, the owner, Ken, thought what the hell, let’s try a bar in the desert. With the land, a liquor license, and a three sided structure that you would never guess was a bar, The Desert Bar was open for business. The old bar still stands but really, compared to the current structures that were completed in 1988 that house the Desert Bar, this is now really just a shack. Or rather it’s a piece of history. • Now operating solely on solar, including a well that Ken dug himself, water used to be trucked in on a tank from the back of his pickup truck. You gotta do what you gotta do, if you build a bar in a desert. • Open October through April, Saturdays and Sundays, high noon til 6pm with live music both days, you gotta get your ass here! • However, being the true dive bar that this is, you will find no craft beer here as of this viewing. So you may not come for the beer, but suck it up, order a Coors and move to the beat of your own drum. We’re not judging you, you saw me drinking a Michelob Ultra. • One of the newest structures, built in the late 90’s, is a church. While there are no services held here maybe it’s a way to ask for forgiveness for whatever you did while visiting Nellie’s Desert Bar. God knows we all need a bit of forgiveness. • Cheers to that! • - - - - • Want more stories?
