A serial murder suspect who inspired hit film “Memories of Murder,” directed by Bong Joon-ho, has admitted to killing the victims, police said Tuesday. • A 56-year-old man, named Lee Chun-jae, confessed to killing nine women in Hwaseong, 60 kilometers south of Seoul, between 1986-91. The serial murder case has stayed unresolved for almost three decades, commonly referred to as the infamous “Hwaseong serial murder case” by the media. • The unresolved serial killing drew wide attention at home and overseas, after filmmaker Bong Joon-ho, the Palme d’or winner of the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, confirmed that his award-winning crime thriller Memories of Murder was directly inspired by the Hwaseong serial murder case. • Related Article: • Suspect in Hwaseong serial murder case confesses to killings: police • https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20191001... • (News Focus) Hwaseong serial murderer may have confessed as chances of parole dimmed • https://en.yna.co.kr/view/AEN20191002...
