Gas Furnace Wont Turn On Basic Troubleshooting Trane Gas Furnace with No Heat

On Christmas Eve, the gas furnace would not turn on. The Trane gas furnace gave no heat and the temperatures were in the single digits Fahrenheit! The so I checked the typical suspects. When the sensor does not detect the flame gas valve is closed to prevent gas leaking into the home. • Our BASIC TROUBLESHOOTING involved • 1) Checking the air filter to make sure it was not clogged. A dirty air filter or a clogged air filter can stop the furnace from functioning properly. • 2) Check to make sure the igniter glows - the ignitor must glow to ignite the gas. • 3) Check the flame sensor and clean if it has heavy carbon deposits which can sometimes interfere with proper functioning. But, even a clean ignitor can be broken or defective so looks don't always tell the story. • Ultimately, our issue was traced back to a faulty connection between the Nest Thermostat and the control board.
