Xenomorphs are aliens from a planet called Xenomorph Prime, and they are the predatory aliens of the film series that started with Ridley Scott’s 1979 film ALIEN. In the film, a character gives the most befitting description of these predatory beasts when he says, “Its structural perfection is matched only by its hostility.” In the late 70s, a Swiss surrealist artist by the name of H R Giger painted the ‘Necronom IV’; this painting was used as the concept art by Ridley for his film, and the rest, as they say, is history. • Not only did Giger win the 1980 Oscar for visual effects, but xenomorphs have since then attracted a global fan following. They have been depicted in all modern forms of art and media, from independent comics and games to films. Recently, a Xenomorph skin has made its way into the battle royale game Fortnite, and on March 24th this year, Marvel Comics is set to release a new series, written by Philip Kennedy Johnson, on Xenomorphs. The prefix- Xeno means out worldly or foreign, and morph means to change smoothly and gradually. Xenomorphs are a complex race; they are divided into several castes like bees, and each caste has a specific role to perform, which can range from transportation and laying eggs to defense and hunting. The Tarkatan Race from Mortal Kombat Universe acts as the base for a caste called Tarkata Xenomorph. However, their reproduction is further complex. The Queen lays eggs called Ovomorphs, these eggs hatch into a parasitic larva called Facehuggers which are transported by the Carrier Caste. Facehuggers are impregnated inside a suitable host and once they have consumed enough, they morph into Chestbursters. These violently explode the host’s chest and come out to finally transform and mature into a fully developed Xenomorph. Interestingly, all xenomorphs develop physiology based on that of their host, while some also acquire the host psychology. These aliens are apex predators, built and born to hunt and dominate.
