Does it smoke or have low power under acceleration? I suggest you do a compression test to check the health of the engine. If you have low compression on one of the cylinder, it can cause the exhaust to smoke and have low power. In our case, I was checking for oil consumption. Take a look at the spark plugs, if they are all clean, most likely the engine is not burning oil. Otherwise, if one spark plug is black and covered with carbon build-up, that is the cylinder that has the problem. • My Story: I bought a lemon BMW 325i E90 with the N52 engine that burned so much oil, it could have been a fish in a previous life. After diving in and researching how to fix the oil consumption issues [check video playlist below] I started by changing the Crankcase Ventilation Valve (CCV) which did not help our oil burning issue.
