In the last week, the largest explosive volcanic eruption in approximately 15th months occurred, as the Shiveluch volcano in Russia produced a powerful VEI 4 explosive eruptions. This not only created a 19 kilometer long pyroclastic flow but also caused layers of ash as much as 6 inches thick to fall near the volcano. Elsewhere, a magmatic intrusion was confirmed at Alaska's Aniakchak volcano at shallow depths, which in my opinion suggests that it is more likely than not to erupt in the next 5 years. And, in Katmai National Park, ash was resuspended in the air that was originally deposited during the 1912 eruption of Novarupta. • Thumbnail Photo Credit: M. As of April 14th, 2023 Mauna Loa is not erupting as its eruption ended in December of 2022, with Mauna Loa's alert level on April 14th 2023 being green aka normal. • If you would like to support this channel, consider using one of the following links: • (Patreon:   / geologyhub  ) • (YouTube membership:    / @geologyhub  ) • (Gemstone Mineral Etsy store: http://prospectingarizona.etsy.com) • (GeologyHub Merch Etsy store: http://geologyhub.etsy.com) • Google Earth imagery used in this video: ©Google Data Providers • Various licenses used in sections of this video (not the entire video, this video as a whole does not completely fall under one of these licenses) and/or in this video's thumbnail image: • Public Domain: https://creativecommons.org/publicdom... • Pixabay License: https://pixabay.com/service/terms/#li... • CC BY 3.0 NZ: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... • CC BY 4.0: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/... • This video is protected under fair use .
