How to Compression Test an Engine

Today I’ll show you how to do a compression test, using my 1985 Toyota. • For a compression test, the engine needs to be warm. The engine internals slightly expand when warmed up, for a more accurate reading. • The 22r and 22RE motors use 13/16” spark plugs. Some engines use a 5/8” spark plug. • As the compression numbers get lower, so will the power output of the cylinder. I’ve tested engines in the 140 range that still ran fine. Once the compression dips below 100, the cylinder is considered to be dead. • Some causes of low compression could be a leaking head gasket, a bad valve seal or damaged or burned valve, or worn piston rings and/or worn cylinder walls. • I don't have Patreon or ask for donations but you can support the channel with some rad gear from my store: http://6thgeargarage.com/merchandise/ • Follow Us: • Instagram: 6th_gear • facebook.com/6thGearGarage
