Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African American Communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, USA in the late 19th and early 20th century. • Jazz music had roots on blues, ragtime, spirituals, hymns, marches, Vaudeville songs and dance 💃 music. It also incorporated intrepretations of African and Europian classical music, entwined with African and slave folksongs and the influence of West African culture. • New Orleans was the main nexus, between the Afro-Carribean and African American cultures. The music of New Orleans had a profound effect on creation of early jazz. In later decades, jazz spread around the world 🗺️ like a wild fire, via Mississippi river to Chicago and then onwards to New York City and rest of the world. New York and Chicago gave it a refuse and help it grow in popularity. • Early Jazz 🎷(1900s to 1920s) led to Swing era in the ( 1930s to 1940s). Louis Armastrong (1901-1971), Duke Ellington (1899-1974) and Count Basie (1904-1984) were the notable artists of the time. The 1930's belonged to popular swing bands. • Jewish Americans were able to bring jazz music 🎼 that African Americans developed, into the popular culture, Benny Goodman (1909-1986) and Gene Krupa ( 1909-1973) from Chicago, became leading members of the Swing. Bebop (1940s-1950), Cool Jazz and Hard Rock (1950s) were popularised by key musicians like Miles Davis (1926-1991)and Art Blakey (1919-1990.) • Jazz 🎷 fusion (1970s) genre blended Jazz with Rock, Funk and R B. Latin and Afro-cuban jazz were developed later during the 20th century. • World renowned Louis Armastong (1901-1971) who was born in New Orleans was an American trumpeter and vocalist. Around the year 1922 Armstrong landed in Chicago to play jazz 🎺 in Oliver's Creole Jazz Band. • Few years later he moved on to New york City where he really popularised Jazz music. He became the voice, face anf force of jazz for the entire world 🌎, for decades to come. His best known songs were, What A Wonderful World 🌎 and Hello Dolly. He was and will continue to be the embodiment of Jazz music for generations to come. • Legendary female jazz performers and composers have contributed a great deal to jazz throughtout its history. Ella Fitzgerald (1917-1996), Billie Holiday (1915-1959) and Betty Carter (1929-1998), just to mention a few famous female singers. • Other famous male jazz 🎺 artists were or are Miles Davis (1926-1991), John Coltrane (1926-1967), Charle Parker (1920-1955), Dizzy Gillespie (1917-1993), Charles Mingus (1922-1979), Nat King Cole (1919-1965) and Winton Marsalis (1961- ), just to mention a few famous ones. • The ubiquity of jazz 🎷 festivals in the USA attests to the wide ranging appeal of jazz music🎵. Chicago, New Orleans and New Yeok City are few big cities which host important jazz festivals annually. Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Australia, Mexico, United KIngdom and France are some of the other countires that annually host jazz festivals. • Jazz Day is celebrated annually on April 30. It is declared by UNESCO and United Nations to highlight Jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe. • Lousiana, USA has been a home for decades for my clssmate Dr. Sudha Pandit and her husband Dr. Ashok Rao. I have visited New Orleans back in 1993 and toured legendary • Jazz Preservation Hall, French Quarters and savored the fine Cajun and French Cuisine. • I started to listen to Jazz music 🎼 since the very fifth day, I arrived peniless in Chicago, back in the summer of 1972 ⏰. It took me few years to appreciate the jazz music. • Written ✍️, edited ✂️, narrated 🎙️and produced by M.S.PATIL., in the Chillywood 🌶️ Studios, • in the very heart ❤️ of Chicago, IL, USA.
