In dentistry, paper points are disposal articles used for drying root canals. These paper points are inserted after the cleaning and rinsing of the root canals to remove residual moisture from the tooth nerve canal. The paper points are replaced until they no longer absorb moisture and the canal is dry. Only a clean and dry root canal should be sealed with gutta-percha (a rubbery material derived from latex), because otherwise micro leaking can occur. Gutta-percha is usually heated up so that it adjusts better to the root canal. This process is more successful if the substance is warm since the material turns more plastic-like.
