Having talked to everyone in Dawnstar, we now trek south to visit the Hall of the Vigilant. As I mentioned last time, the Hall is destroyed when you reach level 10 as part of the Dawnguard DLC, and since this is a 100% Maximized playthrough I wanted to show what's in the Hall before that happens. • Of course, playing an evil character I'll also being stealing everything that isn't nailed down as well. It's really all there is to do here, as the Vigilants here and even Keeper Carcette herself don't really have any unique dialog compared to the Vigilants you come across in world encounters. It's rather challenging to do so when your Sneak skill is low, since the three Vigilants in the main hall apparently never sleep, so someone is usually looking in your direction. But with some patience and the good old basket-on-the-head trick (14:37) we manage. The one thing of value we can't pick up is a Two-handed skill book. We don't want to read it ourselves obviously, and Faendal won't pick it up for us since it's considered stealing. But there are plenty more of that book to be found in the world. • Speaking of Faendal, I rather skipped discussing why I chose him over Sven in the A Lovely Letter quest in Riverwood. There are two reasons: first, stat-wise I find him superior to Sven, and second, I just don't like Sven's attitude. Faendal has a nice laid back attitude to him, but still can get the job done when it's time to throw down with enemies. Unfortunately it's going to be a very long time before he'll be able to get back to Camilla Valerius, as he will be our follower until we complete Dragon Rising and get Lydia, and that's a surprisingly long way away right now. • On our way to the Hall we briefly detour to a shrine of Dibella next to the road, as it has an Illusion skill book that's hard to come by otherwise. After we're done with the Hall we head back to Helgen Keep for some inventory management. Get used to this, as we'll be exploiting the non-respawning storage in Helgen Keep as our home base for a long time. We can't buy Breezehome until we complete Dragon Rising, and as I mentioned there's a long road between here and there. • After organizing things we then head back to Riverwood to sell off a lot of non-essentials. We need to raise some cash for the training we'll be doing shortly.
