Oldham’s coupling is a power transmission mechanism. In 1820 John Oldham invented it in Ireland. This mechanism is inversion of double slider crank chain mechanism. It is a type of flexible coupling which is used to connect two non-coaxial parallel shafts. • Advantages- • 1) The driving and driven shafts rotate at the same speed. • 2) It has good torsional stiffness and zero backlash. • 3) It exerts low reactive forces that protect the support of bearings. • 4) It has low moment of inertia and has an easy installation in blind. • 5) Replaceable wear elements are economical. • 6) Accept large radial misalignment • 7) Center plastic disc have the potential for electrical insulation. • Disadvantages- • 1) Accepts relatively smaller angular misalignment. • 2) It possesses lower peak torque and torsion elasticity. • 3) When the torque reaches the maximum value, axial reaction loads are applied to the support • bearings. • • #Doubleslidercrankchainmechanism #Flexiblecoupling #Mechanism #Oldhamscoupling
