1 week was all it took for me to see ONE THING that made it clear to me that he would be the Green Bay Packers backup QB in 2023. • When the Packers signed USFL MVP Quarterback Alex McGough, I wouldn't have predicted that he would do much short of making a practice squad spot. Seeing just a few clips and hearing a few stories about Alex McGough thus far, and I'm convinced he's the Packers QB2 in 2023. • What is that one thing? His energy. • Well, it's more than just that, but that's the intangible that made me consider this a possibility. • On top of his energy, enthusiasm, and entertaining personality, there were a few other things working in his favor. • He's playing loose and confident. There was a bit of swagger and comfort that he carries about him which I think comes from the confidence of performing at a high level in the USFL. While you may say it's just the USFL, I would argue that it's his MVP caliber season as well as the fact that he's played real football more recently than everyone else. I mean REAL, FULL SPEED GAME ACTION. • Everyone else was either working through the offseason program or preparing for the combine/NFL Draft. That allows him to play at a higher tempo right off the bat. Making reads and playing at game speed rather than playing catch up. Granted he's new to the playbook, but that comes with a little time. It isn't his first foray into the NFL either, so that shouldn't be a problem. • Also, Green Bay knows what they have in Danny Etling. They know where his ceiling is (not much higher than where he's currently at), and I think the writing is on the wall that he'll be the odd man out of that QB room. • On top of that, Sean Clifford was widely viewed as being overdrafted . He was a 5th round pick, but many considered him a late-7th rounder at best. That gives him a solid chance to clear waivers heading into the season. • All of these are things I suspect Brian Gutekunst has in mind and while he'll ultimately choose Alex McGough to be the Packers QB2 in 2023. • #packers #packerscamp #greenbaypackers #gopackgo
