Trust means you believe in a person or a thing. Trust is not automatic, you usually have to earn it. When you do what you are supposed to do, people notice. When you keep your word and do what you SAY you will do, they notice that too. The more they notice, the more they believe in you . . . and bit by bit you earn their trust. • Trust is important in all kinds of relationships - friends, family, classmates, teammates and co-workers. You can earn trust by being responsible - doing what you are supposed to do, when you are supposed to do it, even if you don’t feel like it. Once you earn trust, keep it and fix it, cause you don’t want to lose it! • This lesson aligns with the following CASEL Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies : • Self-awareness: The lesson encourages children to understand their own emotions and values, which is a key aspect of self-awareness. By recognizing how their behavior affects the trust they have with others, they can make informed decisions to maintain positive relationships. • Responsible decision-making: The lesson emphasizes the importance of being responsible and keeping one's promises, which are key components of responsible decision-making. Mrs. Weller stresses the importance of considering the impact of one's actions on oneself and others when making decisions. • Relationship skills: The lesson highlights the importance of building and maintaining positive relationships through trust, which is a key aspect of relationship skills.
