Several rasikas and music students have been requesting me to explain the basic swara structure and classification in Carnatic music. Yes, it is very important to understand the different swara positions since there lies the foundation for learning the different ragas and compositions. • There are actually 12 distinctly different swara positions, but considering the 4 Vivadi swaras, there would be totally 16 swara positions. In this video, I have tried to demonstrate the 16 Swara Sthanas in Carnatic music and I hope it would be helpful to all. Please watch, share and send in your comments :) • Shruti used in G. • Melakarta chart - • https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melakarta • Vivadi Swaras - • A swara which does not have a distinct position but shares the frequency with another swara is called a vivadi swara. For example, G1 occurs at the same position as that of R2. So it is a vivadi note. Similarly R3 (same position as G2), N1 (same position as D2) and D3 (same position as N2) are also vivadi in nature. Came across this interesting take on vivadi swaras, please check it out as well. • https://sunson.wordpress.com/2008/10/...
