The Pacificus Papers were a series of seven essays written by Hamilton in defense of Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality in 1793. This proclamation sparked a debate between pro-neutrality faction and a pro-France faction run by Jefferson and Madison. Madison would write a response series of five essays called the Helvidius Papers where he argued against the proclamation and in favor of America supporting France. • Let me know if you want to support Amending America, we are a nonprofit providing tools for teaching American political history. • website: • https://www.amendingamerica.us
