Cut holes in the cloth and attach the cloth over the umbrellas spokes. • • Step 2) Cover the umbrella with 2mil plastic and poke the spokes through the plastic. • • Step 3) Cut 24 3.5 meter long red ribbons and tie them to the 8 spokes. Then tape 2 ribbons in between each set of spokes with tape. • • Step 4) Get 3.5 meter long white garland and tie this on the alternating spokes of the umbrella you should have 4 spokes that don't have garland attached to them. • • Step 5) Now open and close your umbrella without closing the umbrella completely to model the sea cnidarian motion. • • HOW DOES IT WORK: • Cnidarians are a group of simple invertebrate animals that live in water and use microscopic stinging structures for food and defense. Cnidarians have been on earth for the past 580 million years and evolved from primitive sponges. The most common cnidarians include animals such as Corals, Hydras, Sea Anemias, Porte geese Man of War and Sea Jellies. Sea Jellies consist of a bell which is pretty much just sex organs, a mouth and a stomach that digests food and excretes waist through the mouth. Sea jellies also have tentacles which contain thousands of microscopic nematocysts which are a coiled tube and barb projectile which shoots out if anything touches each tentacle. Some nematocyst's contain venoms that can kill even a human, like the box jelly which is the most venomous animal on the planet. Some sea jellies also have oral arms which help to move food towards the mouth to be swallowed. The Portuguese geese man of war is not a sea jelly but actually a group of cnidarians that evolved to work together. Although in the wild some pacific sea nettles can get as big as our model being 1meter in diameter, most pacific sea nettles don't get any bigger then 30-cm in diameter. The largest sea jelly on earth is the Lions Mane which has a bell of 2.5meters in diameter and tentacles that would stretch over the length of 2 school busses. • • !!!CNIDARIAN PROJECT!!!
