Empathy, the ability to relate to other people’s feelings and circumstances is often a personality trait among people who are driven to help others. Dark empathy, also known as cognitive empathy, is when someone can be attuned to other people's moods, needs and experiences, but have an emotional detachment. It is often found in people on the Dark Triad, exhibiting traits of narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism.
