Presentation: Contrary to the Kantian analysis which claims that the work of art, although addressing our sensitivity, gives rise to a disinterested judgment on our part that can claim an impersonal universality, it will be a question of showing here that art engages our most intimate vital interests, even in a disguised way, whether on the part of the creator or on the part of the amateur. Whether it involves biological (Nietzsche), psychological or infantile, even sexual (Freud) impulses, art allows the artist's deepest personality to express itself and join ours. In other words, while manifesting our intimacy, it does not lock us in it, since it opens us up to that of others, the creators. But it also means that art is a language and not the domain of an objective and inexpressive form, offering itself to a pure aesthetic appreciation. Every work of art therefore has a meaning, if not a meaning, in any case a meaning linked to life, but which cannot be conceptualized: it is in the silent intimacy of the aesthetic experience that we apprehend it, emotionally and intuitively. • Reading advice: Art and life.
