Der Melaten-Friedhof ist der zentrale Friedhof in Köln und findet man im Stadtteil Lindenthal. Der Name stammt von dem im 12 Jahrhundert dort ansässigen Heim für Kranke und Aussätzige . • Als die Bevölkerungszahl im 18. Jahrhundert dann immer mehr zunahm wählte man diesen Ort aus für einen Friedhof. Bis Ende des 18 Jahrhunderts diente der Friedhof auch als Hinrichtungsstätte, somit ist dies ein Ort, dem der Tod wohlbekannt ist. • 1810 wurde der Friedhof als Katholischer Friedhof eingeweiht und ein paar Jahre später stand er allen Konfessionen zur Verfügung. • Sehr viele Prominente und Angehörige des Karnevals liegen hier begraben. Den aber wohl größten optischen Reiz bieten die vielen aufwändigen Gräber, Skulpturen und Gruften, die immer mehr Besucher auf den Friedhof locken. • Der Melatenfriedhof ist nicht nur ein Ort des Todes - er ist höchst lebendig.
