Ulexite is a yellow, colorless, white, to gray mineral that usually forms in rounded masses and very rarely as crystals. Identifying Ulexite rocks is fun when you learn how geologists use different properties of the rock to determine its name. You can learn to identify minerals like a real rockhound using color, crystal shape, streak, luster, and special properties. • Ulexite has no cleavage but will have an irregular or uneven fracture. Ulexite is very soft at a 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, has a white streak, and a silky luster. Ulexite is soluble in hot water so be careful with your samples if you have some in your collection. Ulexite is a fiber-optic mineral. It is often called TV Stone for its ability to transmit images through its fibers from the bottom to the top of the mineral when a sample is polished on both sides. Tracy Jones, the professional geologist at Mini Me Geology is ready to show you examples of Ulexite minerals and teach you how to identify the minerals in your collection. • Subscribe for more great videos about identifying rocks and minerals.
