Directed by Horrible Bosses helmer Seth Gordon, the film is based on the popular 90s TV series and puts a comedic spin on the lifeguard tale with Dwayne Johnson filling the role of Mitch Buchannon and Zac Efron starring alongside him as Matt Brody. Baywatch opens in theaters on May 26, 2017. • Deadline reports that Arrow’s Greg Berlanti will helm a new revamp of the movie musical Little Shop of Horrors. The original started on the stage as a musical from director Roger Corman and was then famously adapted for the screen for director Frank Oz in 1986 with a cast including Rick Moranis, Steve Martin, Ellen Greene, and Bill Murray. Berlanti’s film is described as “a fresh take” on the story about a man who raises a plant that turns out to be a carnivorous man-eater from outer-space. No release date has been set. • Variety reports that an English-language remake is in the works for the Korean zombie film Train to Busan. The outlet mentions that both Fox and Sony were trying to acquire the rights, but they ultimately went to the French studio, Gaumont. No word on a director or cast as of yet, but development is underway and apparently Gaumont has already been approached by a number of Hollywood talent agencies and prominent directors. • Universal Pictures has unveiled a new, full-length trailer for the sequel Fifty Shades Darker. The second film in the Fifty Shades trilogy is based on the books by E.L. James and finds Anastasia Steele back in the life of Christian Grey, the S M-loving businessman who attempts to win her affections once more. Glengarry Glen Ross and House of Cards filmmaker James Foley takes the helm of Fifty Shades Darker, with a cast that includes Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan and Kim Basinger. It opens in theaters on February 10, 2017. • According to a report from Variety, Walton Goggins is in final negotiations to join the cast as the villain of Tomb Raider. If his deal goes through, he’ll join Alicia Vikander who’s on board to play Lara Croft in the Roar Uthaug directed-film.
