In particular, they are both good for digestive health because they support good bacteria in the gut. • But each of them has its own health benefits, so let's take a look them in turn. • Okay, so starting with Spirulina. • Spirulina is full of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. It is rich in vitamins A, B, C, E and K, as well as minerals potassium, calcium, chromium, copper, iron and magnesium. It is also rich in phytonutrients: chlorophyll, polysaccharides, sulfolipids, and glycolipids. • Sorry if I pronounced any of those incorrectly. • It also has a unique phytonutrient that you won't find in any other food: Phycocyanin, which helps protect the body's cells and may help prevent cancer. It is good for brain function, heart health, immune system strengthening, and in supporting bone marrow function for building blood cells. • There is also a lot of beta carotene in Spirulina. This is what makes carrots orange, and the body converts it into vitamin A. • Although Spirulina and Chlorella are both very high in protein, containing between 50 to 70%, Spirulina is a particularly complete source of protein, containing all the essential amino acids. • It is also a better source of essential fatty acids, containing gamma linoleic acid, or GLA for short, which is beneficial for the brain and heart. • Sounds like Spirulina has a lot going for it, doesn't it? Well, it does, but let's not overlook Chlorella as that has some great things going for it too. • Although both Spirulina and Chlorella are rich in chlorophyll, Chorella has significantly more it it. This makes it a powerful antioxidant and cleansing agent as it promotes detoxification of the liver and digestive tract. It can also act as a natural chelator to detox the body of heavy metals, such as lead, mercury and aluminium. • Chlorella also has a unique anti-aging component. It contains a Growth Factor that helps repair nerve tissue damage and boost your immune system. • So, there you go. If chlorophyll is what you're looking for, Chlorella is the one to go for. But Spirulina has so many nutritional benefits it's definitely worth having too. • Thankfully, you don't actually have to choose between them. There's absolutely no reason why you can't have both. You can actually get powdered green juice blends that include both Spirulina and Chlorella along with other amazing superfoods. • In fact, there is one particular green juice product that I drink myself and highly recommend.
