My New Favourite Glaze

Here’s a video that shows how this new olive green glaze settles on one of my thrown and trimmed bowls, in this case, it has been made with a distinctive ledge in the vessel’s waist, as I hoped the glaze would pool onto, and break over it, nicely. • At the moment, this glaze’s colour is produced by a small percentage of red iron oxide and titanium dioxide, but like mentioned towards the end of this video, with these ‘tests’ being so successful, the next step is try out the same base but with varying amount of different oxides, more iron, less iron, to see what hues I can produce. I’m hoping for a warmer set of tones to add alongside my usual crackles, which tend to be colder, meaning I’ve got a lot to do before firing up the kiln again. • It’s another surface that’s tricky to capture due to the gleaming, shining surface it is, but in person it’s intensely green with a warm undertone. Whereas here, in this short video, it certainly feels more yellow-brown. The light shone on the vessel plays a sizeable role too, and I’m sure depending on where this pot sits in your house, you might see different tones throughout the day, and there’s something quite marvellous about that. • #pottery #maker #glaze #reductionfired #satisfying #asmr #ceramics
