Some brilliant bat action from Charlie, our ranger at Walthamstow Wetlands. This male Nathusius’ pipistrelle was ringed in May 2018 recaptured in September 2018, as part of the Nathusius’ Project. Many of these tiny bats migrate from Eastern Europe each year, but this indicates we may have a resident population at Walthamstow Wetlands! We'll be putting up more bat boxes at the Wetlands, which may tell us more. Watch this space! • With thanks to the London Bat Group and the Nathusius’ Project. Walthamstow Wetlands is a fully operational 211 hectare Thames Water reservoir site which is the main source of water supply for 3.5 million people. Walthamstow Wetlands is also an internationally important nature reserve, providing home and shelter to a wide range of wildlife, from rare waterfowl to majestic birds of prey. • Walthamstow Wetlands is a partnership project between London Borough of Waltham Forest, Thames Water and London Wildlife Trust.
