Marina was a Nahua woman that was taken into slavery as a child, only to end up in the hands of the Spanish conquerors. It is while under the service of her new masters that Marina played a major role in the conquest of Mexico. Her linguistic, and diplomatic skills allowed the Spanish to create allies, and move quickly in their conquest of the new world. Due to her role in Mexico's conquest, Marina is often seen as a traitor to her people. Depending on who else you may ask though, Marina may also be seen as symbol of perseverance, a strong woman, and the mother of a whole new race. • • What do you think of Marina's story?
