The Maiden's Prayer (original Polish title: Modlitwa dziewicy Op. 4, French: La prière d'une vierge ) was written by Polish composer Tekla Bądarzewska-Baranowska (1834–1861) when she was just seventeen and was published in 1851 in Warsaw as Molitwa dziewicy Op. 4, then as La prière d'une vierge, a supplement to the Revue et gazette musicale de Paris in 1859. Several musical scholars have spoken somewhat ill of Bądarzewska's musical career and her work. An ungentlemanly German critic in his obituary of Badarzewska opined that ‘[her] early death saved the musical world from a veritable inundation of intolerable lachrymosity’. The pianist and academic Arthur Loesser described “The Maiden's Prayer” as dowdy product of ineptitude. However, The Maiden’s Prayer has been one of the most beloved piano pieces of all time worldwide. Quite an achievement for a teenage female Polish composer of the 1850s. • #TheMaidensPrayer #Bądarzewska #Lovily
