Exam and to be used as a review for the test. This is part I of IV videos that cover of the Florida Civics tested benchmarks. • An updated version is coming soon, but if you are taking the Florida Civics EOC 2024 exam, these reviews cover the vast majority of the tested benchmarks and test specifications. • It is designed for all state Civics exams, including the Florida Civics EOC, Virginia Civics SOL, Florida Civic Literacy Exam, and more. • This video covers: • • John Locke Baron de Montesquieu’s influence on the founding fathers – Locke’s ideas on “natural rights / law” the social contract as well as Montesquieu’s ideas on “separation of powers” “checks and balances” • • The influence of the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, English Bill of Rights, and Thomas Paine’s Common Sense had on the founding fathers with concepts such as limited government, rule of law, social contract, and rights such as trial by jury are reviewed. • • Events leading up to the Declaration, such as British policies on taxes (Stamp Act), the Quartering Act, no taxation without representation, and ignoring colonial protests, are covered. • • The different sections of the Declaration of Independence are covered including the natural rights / purpose of government section and the “grievances” section • • Weakness of the Articles of Confederation • • The goals of the preambles with examples are covered • • Separation of Powers and Checks Balances • • The Rule of Law, Sources of Law (Hammurabi, English Common Law) and Types of Law (Criminal, Civil, Constitutional, Military • • Like most of the videos on Mr. Raymond’s Civics EOC Academy, this video ends with a review “quiz.” Remember that the PowerPoint in this video, as well as a variety of lesson plans and activities, are available at Teachers Pay Teachers. • Mr. Raymond’s Civics E.O.C. Academy was designed for students taking the Florida Civics End-of-Course (EOC) Exam. However, as many states are implementing Civics Exams, these videos will work for all students of Civics, US Government, and US History. Currently, students have to pass a civics state exam in order to graduate in Idaho, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, North Dakota, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah – as well as state social studies tests such as Texas’ STAAR exam, as well as Virginia’s Civics SOL exam. These videos look at all of the civics benchmarks that will be tested on most state civics exams. • As a civics teacher, I have often looked for civics YouTube video clips to show my students. I hope these videos will serve as a supplement to lessons for civics teachers, US history teachers, US government teachers, and their students. While they might be a little basic for AP Government students, they could serve as a refresher of basic concepts and content. I have also thought that these videos could help those who are going to take the naturalization test to become US Citizens.
