Spine Health Exercises: Thoracolumbar Fascia Stretch - Supine • Thoracolumbar Fascia Stretch • Supine on floor or training table. • Hips and knees flexed, feet flat on floor. • Arms out to 90 degrees of shoulder abduction. • Keep scapulae on floor and rotate spine to one direction. • Hold a mild stretch in posterior oblique sling. • Move contralateral shoulder to 120, 150 and 180 degrees of abduction. • Hold a mild comfortable stretch at each angle. • Thoracolumbar Fascia (TLF) AKA Diamond, Thoracolumbar Diamond and Posterior Oblique Sling. • Big sheet of fascia. • Multiple directions of fibers. • Strong and semi-elastic. • Muscle attachment site for Transverse Abdominis, Diaphragm and Internal Obliques. • Contralateral Gluteus Maximus and Latissimus Dorsi connect through Thoracolumbar Fascia to form Posterior Oblique Sling. • Three layers: Anterior, Middle and Posterior. Anterior is thinnest. Posterior layer is thickest. • Spaces exist between each layer. Quadratus Lumborum is located between the anterior and middle layers.
