Sméagol or Gollum was a defining character of Tolkien’s legendarium who ultimately ended up saving the world from Sauron’s conquest. His history is one of sorrow with moments of redemption, but he would only find tragedy at the end, for he was inevitably bound to the One Ring and its fate.
