Car stuck in park Mercedes Shifter Repair Fix

Dominic's S500 Mercedes is stuck in Park. Apparently this is a common issue on a W220 or a W215 S-Class, CL-Class or M-Class Mercedes. My local dealer wants $1200 to replace the shifter which is $500 just in parts. I'll try to rig it it for just 2 hours of my time, or before my son gets home from school. • Tips and tricks: • To get the front bolt out where the pin sticks over it, move the lever into neutral, remove the C-clip and now you can move the pin back as you remove the bolt underneath it with an Allen key. • I got some questions on how I removed the pin from the shift linkage. Brute force... just bend the c-clip out and it will release. (going from |_| to \\_|, you'll see what I mean). When putting it back in, if the rubber is rotted away (which it may as well be after so many years), take the C-clip off, over bend it by a little /_|. Reinstall it and pop the shifter linkage back in. Make sure it's secure so it doesn't fall out during normal operation.
