A bright red river of lava continued to flow from The Cumbre Viejo volcano on Spain's La Palma island, eleven days after it first erupted. • After coursing downhill to the coast for nearly 10 days, the lava reached the ocean just before midnight on Tuesday near the town of Tazacorte. On reaching the water, the lava sends up a plume of smoke and cools rapidly, binding to the cliffside and enlarging the island's territory. • Despite fears of toxic gases from the lava reacting with the seawater, authorities said the air remained fine to breathe inland. • I’ve been here six years and I really thought this would be my paradise island, said Dutch Emilie Sweerts, who owns a shop in Tazacorte. The signs are not so good, she added. • Several villages near the coastline remained locked down as a precaution but banana farmers in several villages were allowed access to their plantations to tend their crops. • No injuries have been reported. • Feed: Exclusive Video Courtesy Of TV Canarias • For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/8222470/la... • Subscribe to Global News Channel HERE: http://bit.ly/20fcXDc • Like Global News on Facebook HERE: http://bit.ly/255GMJQ • Follow Global News on Twitter HERE: http://bit.ly/1Toz8mt • Follow Global News on Instagram HERE: https://bit.ly/2QZaZIB • #GlobalNews #LaPalmaVolcano #LaPalmaLive
