If you are transitioning from ADSL2+ to a VDSL connection using Australia's NBN FTTN (National Broadband Network Fibre to the Node), then you will most likely need a new router. You will still connect through the phone line as usual, but it's using newer technology that is capable of delivering higher speeds. The Netcomm NF4V is one of the routers that is offered by Exetel and a number of other ISP's.
