Halfdeaf action heroes with tinnitus

Thousands of shots fired by the hero, explosions everywhere, one after the other... that's action movies and (some) video games for ya. Real life diagnosis: PTSD, hearing loss and tinnitus. • People often underestimate how much firearms can damage a person's hearing. Noise levels over 85 db have a chance to cause problems, especially with prolonged exposure, and 120 db is the average pain threshold. Most gunshot sounds are above that, as are explosions. Even shooting a caliber as small as .22LR will gradually (or sometimes even suddenly) degrade the shooter's hearing. • Wearing earmuffs or other ear protection on the shooting range is absolutely necessary. Soldiers unfortunately don't always have that luxury, as they need to be able to hear commands, enemy movement etc. Electronic earmuffs that only filter out loud noises would fix that problem but they can interfere with aiming and they are more expensive to equip troops with. • http://www.nbcnews.com/id/23523729/ • For those who are wondering, the rifle in the video is a .54 cal blackpowder muzzeloader, a Hawken flintlock rifle made by Investarm. • My Facebook page: • / skallagrimyt • Royalty Free Music by http://audiomicro.com/royalty-free-music
