They shoot vast amounts of ash, gas, and pumice into the air, forming a towering mushroom-shaped cloud reaching heights of 20 to 35 km. These eruptions sustain a high magma discharge rate for minutes to hours. The eruption of Mount Pinatubo in Zambales, Philippines, on June 15, 1991, showcased a Plinian eruption, marking one of the most explosive eruptions in the world's history. • Strombolian Eruptions are distinguished by their frequent, small explosions that shoot ash, gas, and lava into the air like fountains. These eruptions are caused by the buildup of gas bubbles in the magma, which burst at the surface. The Stromboli Volcano in Italy, which erupted on October 18, 2023, exhibited a Strombolian eruption. • Contact: [email protected]
