Meteorites amp the origin of our Solar system

A meteorite is not just any old stone: it contains clues about the origin of our Solar system. • A “chondrite” meteorite contains “chondrules.” At the beginning of the Solar system, dust particles were orbiting around our primitive Sun. Gradually these particles clumped together to form small rounded granules. These granules are called chondrules. Some granules continued to grow in size and eventually became asteroids. Chondrite meteorites come from these asteroids. Other bodies continued to clump together until they formed planets! • Within massive bodies, gravity causes heavier elements to migrate toward the centre. When collisions occur between these bodies, chips are thrown off, and some of them fall down to Earth. • Have fun trying to distinguish the different types of meteorites in the exhibition at the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan. • ****** • Pour plus de renseignements // For more informations : • • ➡️ Web • http://espacepourlavie.ca/ • • ➡️ Facebook • www.facebook.com/Espacepourlavie • • ➡️ Instagram • www.instagram.com/espacepourlavie/ • • ➡️ Twitter • www.twitter.com/espacepourlavie • • ➡️ Youtube •    / espacepourlavie
