Rameshwaram is one of the holiest places in India and part of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites.. comprising Badrinath, Puri and Dwarka. This temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines, where Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlinga. The place has many temples out of which the Ramanathaswamy temple is the most popular temple of the town. Just beside the beach side of Ramanathaswamy temple, Agni Theertham is located. The beach is also considered by Hindus for holy bath in the sacred water as they believe that bathing in this sea will wash away the sins. • Dhanuskodi is another fascinating location which lies 20 kilometres away of Rameshwaram. The place is bordered by the Bay of Bengal on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. The beach town Dhanuskodi was heavily populated prior to the natural disaster caused by the storm of 1964.
