One day, while cleaning out his closet, he stumbles upon an old can of Powdered Toast, and unwittingly unleashes the source of all of his childhood trauma, Powdered Toast Man. • A WORD FROM CHRIS • This project was suggested to me by A.J. Zyla during one of fan film free for all's. It was so random and odd that I couldn't resist not trying to make it. I love a good challenge, and bringing a wacky character like Powdered Toast Man to life was definitely something worth doing. Originally, the plan was to place a motion capture sticker on the toast mask, then map in PTM's face in post, to make it look more cartoon accurate, ala Annoying Orange. But alas, I was not able to pull it off. I tried though. I really did. But I not sticking the landing when it comes to VFX, so regretfully, I had to start over. • I ended up making a new toast mask, this time out of foam, so it was more bendy, and less rigid, and then Tom Proprofsky and I literally reshot all of this scenes. It was a pain in the ass, but it needed to be done. Would it have been cooler to see Tom's face mapped seamlessly onto a giant slab of toast? Yes, absolutely. But I still think his performance is creepy enough to make up for it. • Regarding the story, that was actually a tough one. PTM doesn't exactly have a lot of continuity going on for him, and the old Ren Stimpy cartoons are like a fever dream. But ever the scholar, I sat down and watched as much PTM content as I could find. Originally, I was considering a standard superhero story, possibly him vs Waffle Woman. But that seemed too pricy to pull off. Then I noticed Little Johnny, and I thought to myself, what if he grew up? In the Waffle Woman battle, she and PTM practically destroy the world while fighting. That has to be traumatic for a kid to witness. What if Little Johnny ended up in therapy because of it? And thus I found my angle. • I liked the idea of a grown man desperately trying to repress what he thought was a terrible hallucination. Little Johnny as an adult trying to explain what Powdered Toast Man is, is on the same level as any regular adult trying to explain what Ren Stimpy is to a kid. Go ahead, try explaining that show to a kid today and tell me they don't look at you cross eyed. • • #renandstimpy #nickelodeon #powderedtoastman
