Prominent members of this group were Christopher Marlowe, Robert Greene, and Thomas Nashe from Cambridge, and John Lyly, Thomas Lodge, and George Peele from Oxford. Thomas Kyd is also sometimes included in the group, though he is not believed to have studied at university. • 1. Christopher Marlowe (1564–1593) • Marlowe is often considered the most talented of the University Wits. His major works include: • Doctor Faustus : A tragedy about a scholar who sells his soul to the devil in exchange for knowledge and power. • Tamburlaine the Great : A two-part play about the rise and conquests of the Central Asian emperor Timur. • The Jew of Malta : A play that explores themes of religious conflict and revenge. • Marlowe is known for his use of blank verse and his development of the tragic hero. • 2. Robert Greene (1558–1592) • Greene was a prolific writer of prose, poetry, and plays. His notable works include: • Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay : A comedic play that mixes elements of magic and romance. • Pandosto : A prose romance that served as the inspiration for Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale . • Greene is also remembered for his pamphlets and for his posthumous work Greene’s Groats-Worth of Wit , which contains an early reference to Shakespeare. • 3. Thomas Nashe (1567–1601) • Nashe was a satirist, pamphleteer, and playwright. His significant works include: • The Unfortunate Traveller : A picaresque novel that is considered one of the earliest examples of the genre in English. • Summer’s Last Will and Testament : A masque that blends elements of pastoral and satire. • Nashe is known for his energetic and vivid prose style. • 4. George Peele (1556–1596) • Peele was a poet and dramatist whose works include: • The Arraignment of Paris : A pastoral play that pays homage to Queen Elizabeth I. • The Old Wives' Tale : A play that combines elements of folklore and comedy. • Peele’s works are characterized by their lyrical quality and their use of mythological themes. • @competitionguruu #competitionguru • Competition Guru Other Important Website- • ➤ Download App:- 📱 APP LINK – https://bit.ly/CompetitionGuru • 👉WhatsApp Channel Link: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaCK... • 👉 Facebook Page Link :   / www.cgi.guru   • 👉 YouTube Channel Link :   / @competitionguruu   • 👉 Website Link For More Courses : www.cgi.guru • 👉LinkedIn -   / competition-guru   • 👉Telegram Link : https://t.me/competitonguru • 1.Competition Guru-www.cgi.guru • 2.Buy Online Mock Test - https://competitionguruonlinetest.com/ • 3.
